VIETGONE (Manhattan Theatre Club/South Coast Rep)

** World Premiere ** Nominee, 2017 Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Play **

playwright: Qui Ngueyn; dir: May Adrales; scenic: Timothy Mackabee; lighiting: Jaymi Smith/Justin Townsend; projections: Jared Mezzochi

It’s the classic story of boy meets girl – except this boy and girl are refugees from the Vietnam War newly settled in a relocation camp inside Middle America. Borrowing elements from the world of up-to-the-minute popular culture to recreate the playwright’s own parents’ meeting, Vietgone ranges from hilarity to heart-wrenching drama.

"These three excellent players give life to sixteen distinct characters. Kudos to the backstage wardrobe crew for the quick changes.. Costumes by Anthony Tran get the period exactly right."   (Paul Myrvold, Theatre Notes)

"The three other cast members in “Vietgone” – each play about a half dozen characters, and they are impressive quick-change artists (helped by the hard-working costume designer Anthony Tran.)"   (Jonathan Mandell, New York Theater)

"Anthony Tran’s costumes for the 18 characters are always perfectly differentiated."   (Victor Gluck, Theater Scene)
